3 Expensive and not worth it
December 10, 2012
By Carol, NY
This very expensive mitt does not work better than the All-Clad or Calphalon oven mitts. Your hands still feel uncomfortably hot heat from cookie sheets when removing cookies. A big disappointment. (Note: this is not made by KatchAll, the mitt recommended by CooksIllustrated.)

5 Best Oven Mitts
January 23, 2012
By Rica, LA
These work exactly as an oven mitt should. I first heard about them from Cook's Illustrated. I bought one of these plus one of their lower rated but less expensive mitts. The less expensive mitts are long in the trash; they burned, developed holes and have been discarded.
The original Kool-Tek Mitt is still in service and I've purchased 2 more - 1 15-inch and another 12-inch. Others have commented that they are not very flexible and that's true but they still work extremely well, wash well and last a long time.

5 Pricey, but really good quality
December 23, 2011
By Ann, WI
I just bought a second oven mitt because I liked the first one so much. It is expensive, but I found that the first one that I bought over 2 years ago has worn well, washed well, keeps the heat away from my hand and still allows dexterity for holding pots and pans.

4 Kool-Tek Oven Mitts
September 24, 2011
By James, IL
Very pleased with this product. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-rating is because I would have preferred the longer 15" version.

5 Pricey, but they work
July 21, 2011
By Diane, TN
I am an occasional baker and prefer to bake rather than cook. (My husband does most of the cooking when we eat in.) I wanted to replace our old set of oven mitts that had worn thin in one spot. I couldn't find oven mitts that provided adequate heat protection in my local stores, so I looked online.

I debated whether or not to purchase these oven mitts, weighing the Cooks Illustrated recommendation versus some of the negative reviews posted on various websites. I took the plunge and have been pleased. These mitts insulate effectively. I haven't sensed any heat when using them. (It's weird. I always had some sensation of heat when wearing other oven mitts.)

I ordered the 12" versus the 15" mitts because the 12" model was a little longer than my old oven mitts. I have a longer set of oven mitts (not Kool-tek) that I never use - because they are so long they're unwieldy. If in the future, if I find I need longer length oven mitts, I'd consider buying the Kool-tek 15" mitts.

The only draw back with these mitts is the price. However, since oven mitts usually last for years (assuming you don't ignite them), I expect the pain in the pocketbook to fade over time.

4 Very Good Finish Quality but Pricey
May 4, 2011
By Angelita, MD
I have had my old ratty oven mitts for years and after one too many burns decided to upgrade. I got these after seeing a review by Cook's Illustrated.

I am hoping these will last a long time as they were very expensive. So far I don't see much difference in heat tolerance than the regular oven mitts.

Hopefully they will last longer as the construction seems to be of better quality than normal cloth oven mitts.

This was the perfect gift for my nephew who has destroyed all Mitts with his outdoor grilling. Great protection.

3 Red Kool-Tek Oven Mitt by KatchAll
October 2, 2010
By Marion, WA
It really didn't keep the heat away from my hand any more than any other less expensive mitt.

My hand got uncomfortably warm while getting a pizza out of the oven.

Pretty bulky and difficult to handle in the kitchen. The glove ends up getting into your food.

Got these in the nick of time. My husband was emptying a very large, full cast iron dutch oven and while draining the water splashed onto the gloves. He felt nothing, our older terry cloth ones would have caused a burn! Easy to manipulate, put on and pull off. We love them!

5 Expensive and worth it
January 30, 2010
By Nancy, MN
I did a fair amount of comparison shopping before buying these. Many reviews said they expensive and worth it. They are wonderful - expensive and worth it. I've never felt even a twinge of heat through them and they are very comfortable and look great. Some say they can't bend their hands/fingers but I can do so just fine.

5 12-in. Kool-Tek Mitt
July 11, 2009
By Mark, VA
Got it with a 15-in. Combo works great for reaching into the hot oven to pull out and then stabilize with the 12-in. mitt. Very pleased.

5 Heat resistance and "Grippability."
March 30, 2009
By Janice, CO
The mitts protect my hands from the heat and are easy to use. I no longer have to worry about dropping a big, hot, greasy roasting pan when I take it out of the oven.

4 Great for big hands
November 9, 2008
By Julie, CA
The quality is first rate but they are expensive. My husband loves them, he uses them for everything from BBQ to putting heavy cast ironware into/out of the oven. I have average sized hands and find them way too big, they slide around so roomily that they are cumbersome. If there was a smaller version I'd buy another pair right away.

5 Great Oven Mitt
October 8, 2008
By Ann, WI
When I ordered this mitt, I was debating between the 12 inch and 15 inch (found elsewhere.) The shorter version was cheaper, so I took a chance. I am quite pleased with the purchase. It is the perfect combination of enough coverage and thickness, without feeling too bulky. It gives great protection from the heat, but does not prevent me from properly gripping pans. I am considering ordering a second one. Cook's Illustrated recommended it and they were right.

5 The only oven mitt to own
September 8, 2008
By Kay, DC
I got one of these earlier. I bought another so I could have a pair. They allow you to hold hot items longer. They protect top and bottom and up the wrist. If you are interested in matching your decor, these may not be for you. But I actually use my kitchen to cook. I tossed the drawer full of other mitts and pads.
