Although the unit is automatic, the freezer bowl must first be placed in your freezer before you make your dessert.

Preparing the Freezer Bowl:

The freezer bowl must be completely frozen before you begin your recipe. The double insulated freezer bowl contains a cooling liquid between the bowl walls to create fast and even freezing. The length of time needed to reach the frozen state depends on how cold your freezer is – for best results, place the bowl to the rear of your freezer where it is coldest. In general, freezing time is between 6 hours and 22 hours. To determine whether the bowl is completely frozen, shake it. If you do not hear liquid moving, the cooling liquid is frozen. For the most convenience, leave your freezer bowl in the freezer at all times so you can take it out any time for immediate use.

4 Good quality ice cream maker
July 24, 2013
By Janell, WA
If the area is warm, it takes longer to make the ice cream. By chilling the mixture in the freezer for 15-30 minutes before putting into the ice cream freezer, it cut doem on the time it takes to freeze the ice cream to about 15 to 20 minutes. Otherwise it takes 25 to 40 minutes for the ice cream to become firm enough to eat. It is very easy to use otherwise.

4 Great for kids.
July 20, 2013
By Roger, MI
I bought this for the grand kids, but I think my wife and I are going to have fun with it as well. Works great, we just made a batch of fresh blueberry frozen yoghurt in about 15 minutes. The only drawback about this product is clean up. A lot of little nooks and crannies. I would recommend this product to any one, especially if you have children.

5 Quick, fast, nice little machine
February 12, 2013
By Alida, CA
I love the machine set-up, especially with the sprinkles dispenser. It doesn't make a lot of frozen yogurt or ice cream to really need the showy set-up - we get 4 or 5 3oz servings but it's a fun gadget to give everyone a quick soft-serve/frozen item. It only takes about 10-12 minutes and the machine has to remain on to dispense, otherwise, you need to scoop out and put into your freezer container so the paddle doesn't get frozen into the quickly hardening confection but overall, neat item. I wish I could find a similar machine that would make large quantities so I could use for catering events but for home use and a quick little treat, this works.

5 Fun Product
September 6, 2012
By Dara, TN
What a fun product! Our first batch was a strawberry yogurt made with frozen strawberries from our garden. Yum! Just wish it made a bigger batch, although for 2 or 3 people it's just fine. I think that we're going to get a second bowl so that we can make more for family events. The machine is well made and typical of Cuisinart products. Easy to use and sturdy enough to last for many years. I bought this in order to make healthy desserts for my diabetic mom. She's going to have something "sweet", whether it's healthy or not. This way, I can control the ingredients and make sure that she's getting "low sugar-lowfat" frozen dessert.

I was very excited about this product after reading positive reviews. I decided to make the cheesecake ice cream from the enclosed booklet and it just didnt freeze to the right consistency. I made sure the ingredients I used were cold and the bowl had been in the freezer for days. We did eat some of it, but it had to be in a bowl because the ice cream was too soft to stand in a cone. I liked the idea of not having to use salt and ice to make ice cream, but this just didn't deliver what it advertised.

Making a fairly quick ice cold pick-me-up on a hot summer day is so easy with this machine. I might need to order another freezer tub.

I used this for a barbecue ove r the 4th of July and it was a big hit. The best recipe was the coffee ice cream. Chocolate on was not that good. I will try some of the other recipes I have for ice cream, gelato and sorbet to see if they will do just as well.

4 a good risk taken--a 4 PLUS
January 26, 2009
By princess, NC
I had seen mixed reviews, but took a chance- we are very happy. Haven't had it long enough to decide where I'd rank it between 4 and 5 .
1) SET-UP: this was clear and straighforward. The only difficulty I had was early in use, when I was trying to re-assemble the clear chute back under the lever which opens the ice-cream flow; I had left the lever down and was stupidly trying to jam the chute back in for a good minute before I figured out that the lever handle must be up to create adequate space.
2) MAKING the ice cream: Overall process is simple, intuitive. The liquid may drip through when you initially pour it into the canister, so we start with a bowl under the opening and dump it back in if it's more than a spoonful. We used the basic vanilla recipe with a few variations--there has always been plenty of chill in the frozen canister to make a full recipe without a problem. Even on New Year's Eve, when we made additional ice cream (we had 9 people, incl 5 kids) by adding more liquid in 6-oz amounts as the supply of made ice cream dwindled, we didn't exhaust the freezing capacity of the machine. One can peer in through the open top at the ice cream as it's being made and easily monitor its consistency. The add-in apparatus was a huge hit with the kids. We used mini M and M's, choc. jimmies and rainbow sprinkles.
3) CLEAN-UP: no problems.

4 Real Stuff
January 21, 2009
By Lisa, KY
I purchased this item as a family Christmas gift and the first thing we made was dark chocolate ice cream. Talk about fresh and knowing exactly what you are eating. It was far easier to assemble and use that I thought it would be. Clean up is simple. The recipes are great and use ingredients that are common. We store the main mixer in the freezer all the time so it's ready to use at a moment's notice.

3 Instructions for use
July 4, 2008
By Derald, OH
Due to less than effective instructions for best results, we were forced to resort to trial and error before achieving the quality that we hoped for. For example.......very few consumers have any idea what temperature their freezer is set for. Very few consumers keep freezer thermometers in their homes. After a careful review, it does indicate that the freezer needs to be at

There's not much I can say as I purchased the Ice Cream Maker as a gift therefor I have no first hand experience with it. However the party that received it as a gift raves about it and claims she has told all her friends about it............JL

2 too runny to stay on the cone
May 7, 2008
By Evelyn, TX
I thought that this ice cream would be able to hold up on the cone, like the ones you buy at a shop. the ice cream is too soft. the canister melts too fast also.
